Bluewater Leisure Centre Stadium OpenedApril 19, 2017
The Colac Basketball Association grand finals were played in the Bluewater Leisure Centre stadium.
Mayor Chris Potter said he was thrilled to announce official opening of the stadium on Sunday, March 26 when the local basketball league came together for the season decider.
Cr Potter said Council and contractors had worked tirelessly to have the stadium ready for the grand final.
“The stadium is really something to behold, people were amazed at how big it is, how great it looks and how functional all the player, officials, spectator and storage spaces are.
“It’s been a long haul for our user groups such as the CBA and the Colac Secondary College, and again I’d like to acknowledge their resilience and thank them for their support along the way.
Colac Basketball Association’s President Peter Lemke said the completion of the stadium redevelopment was an exciting time for Colac basketball and the community.
“Our recent junior tournament attracted almost 700 players and it will be great to have them all in Colac next year along with our CBL teams competing on our home court in front of a vocal Colac Kooka crowd,” Mr Lemke said.
“It will also be an opportunity for players of all levels to enjoy playing in such a great environment.”
The CBA’s grand finals kicked off with the junior girls and boys and ran throughout the day.
Cr Potter encouraged the community to drop into the stadium to have a look and support the local basketballers.
“The basketball association has been a strong partner to Council throughout the redevelopment and we couldn’t be happier to have them raise the curtain on what is going to be a great new chapter of sport in this facility.”
